Relationships and its Issues

Relationship is basically a sexual and emotional bond between two individuals. Relationships come with lots of issues. This is because two individuals have different priorities, behaviors, values, attitudes and so on. Therefore, there is bound to be some disagreements between them.

Some of these issues in relationships include:

  • Poor Communication: Lack of communication is one of the most common issues relationship faces.

Communication in a relationship is a necessity as it promotes healthy relationship. All relationships have problems and good communication between both parties will help make conflicts bearable.

Since, no one can read another’s mind, effective communication is necessary as it will help you understand your partner better, and serves as an efficient route in problem solving.

In situations where it is difficult to talk about your issues with your partner, or both partners find it hard to communicate between them, psychotherapy is advised. Seeing a therapist could enable the parties to talk and express their problems. Through this the major cause of their issues will be identified and ways to cope with it can also be addressed.

  • Unsupportive Partner: a relationship where one partner feels lack of encouragement and support in their endeavours from their significant other could weaken the bond between both parties. In worse situations, relationships may fail because of this. It is necessary for partners to be intentional in caring about each other’s struggles, achievements, and aspirations. This builds relationships and builds their bond.
  • Finances: According to Slyia Smith, Financial issue is one of the common problems relationships face. Financial issues can come in the aspect of lack of money, over-spending, loss of jobs, and debts. Also, in marriages financial issues arises when couples do not know how to split financials burden among the partners. In Nigeria, especially in our fathers and grandfathers era, it was proper that the man or husband is the one responsible for all financial expenses in the house, however over the years, there has been changes where financial expenses are being split among the couples. In a country where the stereotype is that men should provide there is bound to be issues in relationships where the man wants a 50/50 division of financial costs in the union. Issues like this can be resolved by couples talking about it and coming to an agreement.

Other common issues in relationships include: Infidelity, sexual intimacy, sexual issues, different values, trust issues, and improbable expectations, etc.

All these issues can be resolved if partners try to talk about it and come to certain agreement where both are ready to compromise for each other. When relationships experience serious concerns that both parties are finding it hard to let go, it is advisable to seek the counsel of a psychologist or therapist. This is when both parties agree to work on their problems.  It is necessary to seek for therapy in order to save your relationship and also save yourself from emotional and mental stress.

In this case, Bestherapy offers the best psychotherapy possible where couples can share their problems without fear of being judged.
